From the face of the stapler, how far in is the staple applied? In other words, if we placed a part that is 2" deep and had a flange that we wanted to staple, if we butted the 2" high part against the front of the stapler, how far in would the staple be from the 2" rise butting up against the stapler?

This tool has a throat depth of 5.9". From the front of the stapler, it can reach and apply a staple up to 5.9" deep into a part. For your specific scenario, if you place a part that is 2 inches deep against the front of the stapler, the staple will be applied right at the edge where your 2-inch high part meets the stapler. This is because the staple is applied at the very front of the stapler, and the 5.9-inch throat depth is there to accommodate stapling in hard-to-reach areas that are further back.
